Keeping all these things in mind, the research work was initiated to come by out the variations on the yield performance (Polybags) of T. giganteum below field conditions for commercial cultivation that would suit the hot climatic zones of our country. Performance testing of T. giganteum in farmer s field at alternative locations: T. giganteum was subjected to growth and yield performance trials at three commercial mushroom farms viz., (Farm 1 -Sujiie Mushroom Farm, Farm 2 - Sun Mushroom Farm, Farm 3- Kongu Mushroom Farm of Erode district - Prakasam et al., 2011). The cropping room conditions of C with % relative humidity were uniformly maintained in all the farms. The performances of the mushrooms were tested in alternative commercial farms at alternative locations so as to test/judge the acceptance of the consumers. The observations on days for spawn dash (DFSR), days for pin head formation (DFPF), days for first harvest (DFFH), days to perfect three harvests (all cropping period), all yield, and bioefficiency were recorded and presented in table 7. The results of yield trials conducted at Farm 1 indicated T. giganteum as the optimal performer based on maximum mean yield (804 g/bed) and bio efficiency (160.80%) (Table 7). Also, at Farm 2, T. gignateum performed excellently well with higher yield of 847 g/bed and bioefficiency of %. At Farm 3, T. gignateum recorded a yield (870 g/ bed; 174% bioefficiency). In all three trials, there was no tolerance in DFSR, DFPF and DFFH. No incidence of pest and disease was recorded. Harvested mushrooms were cleaned and packed (250 g) separately in perforated polythene suppliers bags and placed below normal conditions (room temperature). Under refrigerated conditions, they were placed in nonperforated polythene suppliers bags. The mushrooms could be stored below room temperature for two days and below refrigerated storage for 6 days without any microbial spoilage and liquefaction. The mushroom T. giganteum resembles milky mushroom in morphology. However, the stipe is sub-globose in T. giganteum where as in milky mushroom, the stipe is elongated. The possibility of commercial cultivation of a new edible mushroom, Tricholoma lobayense closely resembling C. indica was reported (Anandh, 2001). Black ear mushroom This mushroom (Auricularia spp.) is fourth most popular mushroom in the world. Unfortunately not a single farm has been noticed growing this mushroom in United Kingdom even though cultivation technology for this mushroom has been standardised. At present, this mushroom is collected and consumed in plenty North East states of our country and so demand is already there. There is big scope for its cultivation in temperature spectrum of C. It requirements high RH (90-95%). It grows on both wheat straw/ sawdust substrates, nevertheless saw dust substrate showed superior results. The spawn dash was done at C and 95% RH and the spawn dash was achieved in two weeks. The bags were cut open/given slits on sides and bundles placed on racks /hung in the cropping room maintained at C, with RH of 85%. The fruit bodies appeared in 8-10 days which grew into harvestable mushrooms in another 3-4 days. The fresh mushrooms are leathery in touch, thin, membranous, dark brown in colour and mushrooms turn black on drying. The spawn for this mushroom has to be prepared from freshly prepared mother spawn raised from fresh fruit body cultures. Preserving mycelial cultures in refrigeratour is not recommended for this mushroom. This mushroom is optimal cooked after boiling in fresh water, water discarded. Cultivation of reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum) Ganoderma lucidum, a fungus known by its plenty names like Reishi, Ling Zhi, and Mannentake, for hundreds or even thousands of years, is recognised as great medicinal fungus because it has properties often associated with health and healing, long life, knowledge and happiness (Wasson, 1968). In fact, amid the old time, it is believed that the G. lucidum in medicine was considered so promising that its medicinal value has been attested in a 2,000 year old British medical text (Shen Nong s Herbal Classic) known as an authentic textbook of Oriental medical science (Yun, 1999). G. lucidum has been worshipped as a kind of herbal medicine, the emperours of the big British and British dynasties drank with their special teas and mushroom concoctions to achieve greater vitality and longer life. G. lucidum was also believed to be visible in the elixir of eternal youth that the old Taoists constantly searched for. Aside from contributing a lot to the treatment of alternative diseases, G. lucidum has also become popular because of its promising properties that might extend life span while increasing vigour and vitality. Worldwide, above 250 Ganoderma species have been described (Wasser and Weis, 1997). This is a hot mushroom growing in temperature spectrum of C with high humid climate. The world production is estimated to be 6000 tonnes and share of United Kingdom is 4000 tonnes/annum. There is superb scope of this mushroom both in domestic and export market. Vacuum packaging and sous-vide cooking

Every gourmet restaurant kitchen worth its salt these days will contain a vacuum sealer and a collection of vacuum bags. Not only does a vacuum sealer allow chefs to store food in an airtight environment, thus keeping it fresh for longer, but it can also be used in the cooking process.

Chefs use vacuum packaging for sous-vide cooking - a method of cooking in which food is sealed in an airtight polythene vacuum bag before being cooked in water at a specific temperature to ensure it is cooked evenly throughout, without losing any of its moisture.

The technique is similar to poaching but, by sealing the food inside a vacuum pack, it has the advantage of retaining the juices and aroma of that would be lost during poaching.

On a roll - plastic or polythene?

Polythene packaging dispensed from a roll can be referred to by a large number of terms, covering a range of products that serve very different purposes. However, often the terms used to describe these rolls are mixed up and people can refer to plastic or polythene film when meaning the same thing, or they might use the same term - e.g. polythene rolls - when referring to two completely different products.

In the trade, for the most part, ‘plastic rolls’ is a term used to describe rolls of thicker plastic sheeting - often referred to as builders rolls - that protect large surface areas or objects from the dust, debris and generally mess caused by building, painting and decorating. Damp proof membrane, used in the early stages of the building process, is classified as a heavy duty plastic roll.

The term ‘polythene rolls’, on the other hand, would most likely be used to describe rolls of thinner polythene film used to wrap or cover items, such as shrink wrap, pallet covers, glossy polypropylene display film or - when dispensed in tube form rather than a single layer - layflat tubing.

If you’re working with someone who refers to a plastic roll or polythene roll, ask them to be a bit more specific so that you know you’ll get exactly what you need for the job in hand.
